Purchase one of our unique creations, sign up for a workshop, or hire us to create something special, we’d be glad to help.

Bagel Story Letterpress Art Print
$150.00

A bagel’s journey becomes a hilarious and strangely relatable parable in “Bagel Story”—a limited-edition collaboration between New Yorker cartoonist Drew Dernavich and letterpress artist Christy Nesja.

Told in six linocut panels with handset letterpress captions, the print follows the evolution of one bagel’s life: from plain bagel… to multigrain bagel… to a triumphant bagel with EVERYTHING. But even with everything, contentment is fleeting. The bagel grows dissatisfied, questions its goals and values—and ultimately circles back to being a plain bagel.

The Bagel Story cartoon was originally published in traditional black and white in the January 28, 2008 issue of "The New Yorker." For our three color interpretation, Drew prepared his drawing for relief printing by hand-carving two linoleum blocks. Christy hand-composed wood and metal type to work with Drew's image, and selected the three ink colors.

Equal parts funny and philosophical, “Bagel Story” is a tongue-in-cheek take on modern ambition, consumer culture, and the eternal craving for more. Hand-printed on fine paper, signed and numbered by both artists, this print is both a collector’s item and a conversation starter.
